Digital Horizons: A.I. Literacy

Digital Horizons: A.I. Literacy Online

Session Description:

The emergence of generative A.I. technologies such as ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion have set off waves of awe, excitement, and panic. The capacity of these technologies to work with large, complex text commands and generate critically acclaimed art to human like intelligence demands for critical reframing of our institutions, even companies like Google are in “code red alert” in response to the release of these tools. This final workshop in our series will first take a step back to consider what costs us and our planet’s resources to create and power these tools.

RSVP Required

Digital Horizons Workshop Description:

Many spheres of our lives are moving toward a hybrid of change and normalcy as we learn to live with and past the COVID-19 pandemic. One aspect of change that is here to stay with us is our deepening enmeshment in digital technologies for learning, communicating and creating. This ever-burgeoning paradigm shift brings with it profound implications for online surveillance, data privacy, misinformation, critical thinking, and civic responsibility.

The Digital Horizons workshop series will provide fresh explorations into the most important topics in emerging technologies relevant not only to education, but life as a digital citizen. This workshop series will be valuable to students across disciplines, both inside and outside of the classroom. For students pursuing further education and research opportunities, these workshops will provide the knowledge and skills to navigate digital spaces critically and confidently, resist Big Tech’s breach into our personal data, and prioritize creative and critical thinking in the age of generative A.I. For students entering the workforce, these workshops will give them the knowledge and skills to protect the privacy of customers, clients, and employers while equipping them with a foundation to innovate their workspaces through these new technologies. Participants will gain greater control over their online presence and will be able to make informed choices with regard to their online activities and use of AI. Powered tools.
